About The Novel

Grace Under The Gaslight is the ninth in a series of historical fictional novels written by the rising  Canadian author Georges Constantine. The novel returns to the Reconstruction-era Deep South as explored in Constantine's earlier work, Savage Tides of Hope.

In Gaslight, Constantine explores the social and political effects of the end of the Civil War as it played out in the French-influenced Louisiana coastline. Constantine tells the story of historic New Orleans in a manner rarely seen outside the history books, by weaving a tale of one family's struggle to integrate into the Reconstruction era  and break away from old Southern traditions,

The heroine, Eveline Lefèvre, strives to restore her family honor against the schemes of her oppressive father, Jacques, who clings to the traditions of the Old South. The story is told against the beautiful, romantic backdrop of the burgeoning and healing New Orleans and the plantations and settlements of old Louisiana.
